Elena Birkenwald (born 1962 in Odessa, Ukraine and currently living in Hanover, Germany) is an artist known for her figurative expressionism. She also applies her painting style to instruments like violins or violoncellos.
Her work is often deeply melancholic and tends to awake realisations in the observers mind, where he suddenly gets reminded of his or his relatives past and clearly sees certain situations replaying in his mind, but most importantly, put into a new context.
Past exhibitions include appearances on German national TV, galleries in Los Angelos and numerous ones in Germany.
